He is a qualified Pilate’s instructor and is a credentialed McKenzie therapist. He has also studied a wide variety of manual therapy techniques both from Osteopathy and Physiotherapy. Hamish uses a combination of the various therapies that he has studied in order to create an optimal approach for each patient he sees. Hamish is also a firm believer in looking beyond the passive treatment model . Hamish has worked as a clinic tutor at the Unitec student Osteopathic clinic, a position which he very much enjoys however this part of his working week is on hold while he studies a post graduate certificate in Sports Medicine.
Hamish is registered to practice in New Zealand by the Osteopathic Council of New Zealand. The concept is to provide a fun, group based exercise sessions that anyone can use. Shanon Coxall Jones completed his Osteopathic training at Unitec in 2015, and is our latest addition to the team at Orewa Osteopathy. He is a recent graduate from the Osteopathic Masters course and after 5 years training is full of the latest treatment techniques and up to date developments in the fields of Osteopathic Medicine and Manual Therapy. His interest in Osteopathy was sparked by 14 years of martial arts training, and the many opportunities this provided for experiencing rehabilitation from the patients perspective.
He has also been heavily involved in the development of the West Coast Swing dance style in New Zealand since 2007, and his understanding of functional mechanics from all these disciplines give him a wide variety of tools to help tailor treatment to the individual. Shannon has a great enthusiasm for Osteopathy and has built an excellent rapport with the patients that he seen so far
Here at Orewa Osteopathy we aim to provide the very highest smooth of Osteopathic care. In addition to Osteopathy we use Pilates, Acupuncture and the McKenzie Method to treat and manage patient’s injuries. Although often not well utilised in this area, Osteopaths are well equipped to treat and manage sports injuries. Hamish , Cheri and Shanon have strong sporting backgrounds and are familiar with many of the issues and injuries sports people can face. Sports related issues is a particular area of interest to Hamish, who is currently studying a Post Graduate Certificate in Sports Medicine at Auckland University. Symptoms of sciatica and femoratica include sharp shooting pain, pins and needles, numbness and muscle weakness. It is in our scope of practice to treat and manage sciatica and femoratica and just like low back pain we have good procedures for doing so
