My name is Karen and I have been involved with dogs for 15 years in a variety of different roles. Training is reward based with either food or ball rewards and the dogs are enthusiastic learners, and more importantly they are enthusiastic truffle hunters. But where did the business all start when I offered to train one of my dogs to search their truffle orchard truffi re . Ollie was the most amazing dog to teach me so much about searching for truffles but has now retired. The 2015 season ended well for Indy with locating first time truffles in two different truffi re’s.
By four months he was already learning how to find the scent, and by six months was well in the swing of hunting for the scent. He had the opportunity to search for truffle in a producing BoP truffi re and was successful in locating his first buried truffle
Anyway, Tramp hadn’t been crated before, so seeing the reveal trolley for the beginning time was very overwhelming for him. The Wellington sessions consisted of a one day scent workshop and a one day tracking workshop. Informative topics include a history of animal training, the principles of animal training and the biology behind them, teaching animal training, and effective training. This session alone helped people comprehend the importance of accepting exactly what the trainer is trying to achieve prior they start training.
Steve was in New Zealand for the first time to share his passion and enjoyment in training dogs.
